How to Calculate Your Running Pace
Learn the pace formula, how to convert pace between km and miles, and how to apply it in training.
The pace formula in plain English
Running pace is simply total time divided by total distance. If your 10K takes 50 minutes, your pace is five minutes per kilometer.
You can reverse the same formula to solve a target finish time: pace multiplied by distance equals total race time.
How to avoid common calculation mistakes
Always keep your units consistent. If distance is in miles, pace must be per mile unless you convert first.
For long runs, use HH:MM:SS so your total time stays accurate and your final pace does not drift.
